Swastika is regarded as a divine
sign by Hindus. The word swastika means auspicious in the Sanskrit language
and hence is used to symbolize the welcoming of auspiciousness and driving
away evils. The symbol also represents the changing of the universe around
the unchanging nature of God.The right-hand swastika is one of the 108
symbols of the god Vishnu as well as a symbol of the sun and of the sun god
Surya. The symbol imitates in the rotation of its arms the course taken
daily by the sun, which appears in the Northern Hemisphere to pass from
east, then south, to west. (It is also a symbol of the sun among some Native
Americans). The auspicious symbol of the swastika is very commonly used in
Hindu art, architecture and decoration. It can be seen on temples, houses,
doorways, clothing, cars, and even cakes. It is usually a major part of the
decoration for festivals and special ceremonies like weddings. |

Aum Trishul Swastika The swastika has been regarded as the symbol for good luck, protection and auspiciousness for over five thousand years in India. It is derived from 'SU-VASTI' and means The essence of all goodness This particular swastika combines the sacred syllable Om with the trident symbol of Shiva and is hence very potent in protecting one's worship space or prayer room from any negative energy. It is primarily a spiritual swastika, though a secondary benefit is that it rectifies any flawed energies that may be present in the house due to faulty construction. Three powerful symbols of Hinduism come together in this single The swastika is both a sign and a talisman containing mystical powers to ward off malefic effects with positive forces. Combined with 'Om' - the seed sound of the cosmos, and the 'Trishul' - the weapon of Shiva, it emanates a triple power and energy. The sign of the swastika is usually drawn in vermilion powder before the commencement of prayer or offering to the gods. It is also commonly hung above doors or entrances to homes and offices as a sign of welcome to all who enter. |
