Eternal Platinum |
| Platinum is the rarest of all the precious metals. It is a naturally white metal and will maintain its luster . More than 90% of all platinum supplies come from South Africa and Russia. It is a malleable, ductile, lustrous, silver-white, chemically inactive metal. One thing that makes platinum so wonderfully special is the rarity of the material. Ten tons of ore have to be minded to produce a single ounce of platinum. And only after painstaking and time-consuming refining can skilled hands work to transform platinum into wearable master pieces. |
Platinum may seem new but it's history is also legendary. The ancient Egyptians and South American Incas prized it and today, the finest and most elegant jewellery contains platinum. |
Platinum is also wonderful for people with sensitive skin as it's hypoallergenic properties make it available to wear to anyone. |
| Because it is generally 95% pure , platinum jewellery does not fade or tarnish and keeps its looks for a lifetime. Like all precious metals, platinum scratches. However, the scratch on a platinum piece is merely a displacement of the metal and none of its volume is lost. So, even though wearing it each and every day may leave an impression on the surface, it remains what it was - eternal. |
| Keep your precious pieces in a safe place and remember to have them sufficiently
insured. Store pieces separately, in a jewellery box or chamois bag so they don't get scratched by other items of jewellery. Clean your platinum jewellery periodically, the same way you clean other fine jewellery - using a pre-packaged jewellery cleaner or by soaking it in a mild solution of soap and warm water then gently rubbing it with a soft cloth. Have your platinum jewellery professionally cleaned once in a while. Take your platinum piece to a qualified jeweler for polishing if visible scratches appear. Over time, platinum develops a natural patina that many people prefer over the 'just polished' appearance. When this happens, you may take your piece to a qualified jeweler to have it re-polished to a high gloss look. Don't leave your platinum jewellery on when doing home cleaning, gardening and other types of heavy work or manual labor. Don't handle bleach or harsh chemicals when wearing platinum jewellery. Although they won't hurt the platinum, chemicals may discolor diamonds or gemstones. |

Trivia : Platinum belongs to a family of six metals ; ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium, and platinum. Only about one-third of the platinum mined today is used in jewellery. Platinum plays an important role in medicine. It is not affected by the oxidizing reaction of blood, has excellent conductivity, and is compatible with living tissue. Because of these properties, platinum is used for pacemakers. Many people are living healthily on pacemakers. Platinum is a life-saving metal for these people. Many cars have platinum in catalytic converter's, which reduces emissions. It is interesting to note that there are no stockpiles or 'reserves' of platinum in any government or banking storage. |
